Kintsugi. The Japanese practice of taking broken pots or vases and making them new again. Also known as "wabi sabi", the purpose of this technique is to find beauty even in things that aren't considered such. In this project, I used an old, dilapidated school as my canvas and various things in and around it in order to add detail.

My favorite photos from that day were the ones that featured doorways. They look almost like mirrors into the soul. I also found an old sink full of flowers. It felt almost as if it was placed there just for me, waiting to be found. I immediately grabbed my camera and began shooting, trying my HARDEST not to knock it over or touch it. It was perfect just as I found it.

Although, not my most popular, this is one of my all-time favorite projects due to the simplicity of it. It's both loud and almost soft. Calm and chaotic. Its everything both good and bad balled up into one. I hope it evokes as much emotion for the viewer (YOURSELF) as it did me.

Moral of the story being, there's beauty in everything. YOU just have to find it. Sometimes it's right in front of you, sometimes it's a person, other times an old broken-down school with caved in floors. Just watch your step. And watch for snakes too.
